Brett H. Ludwig Named U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge

     Chief Judge Diane P. Wood of the United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit is pleased to announce the appointment of Brett H. Ludwig to a 14-year term as United States Bankruptcy Judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Wisconsin headquartered in Milwaukee. He will also sit in Eau Claire and Madison.  He will take office on Monday, February 27, 2017.
 
     Mr. Ludwig was born in Marshfield and graduated from Colby High School. He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point and his law degree from the University of Minnesota Law School magna cum laude where he was Managing Editor of the Law Review and Order of the Coif. He was admitted to practice law in Wisconsin in 1994.  
     Mr. Ludwig is a partner with the law firm of Foley & Lardner and serves as Chair of their Milwaukee Office Pro Bono Committee. He also is an Adjunct Professor at Marquette University Law School.  
     Mr. Ludwig sits on the Board of Directors, Executive Committee and Pro Bono Committee of the Eastern District of Wisconsin Bar Association. He was part of the group that launched the Association’s Federal Legal Assistance Program, a telephone line staffed by volunteer lawyers to provide basic procedural advice to pro se litigants in federal court.  
     Mr. Ludwig is a Member of the Judicial Election Steering Committee for the State Bar of Wisconsin. He has also served on the Board of Governors, as a Member of the State Bar Policy Committee and as a Member of the State Bar 2015 Annual Meeting and Conference Planning Committee.  
     Mr. Ludwig is a Member of the Milwaukee Bar Association and has served on its Professionalism Committee. He is also a member of the Seventh Circuit Bar Association and the Ozaukee County Bar Association.  
     Mr. Ludwig provides pro bono legal advice and counseling to several organizations serving victims of domestic violence including The Sojourner Family Peace Center in Milwaukee and The Women’s Center, Inc., in Waukesha.
